A STORY OF PASSION AND WAVES SINCE 1998

BERRIA SURF SCHOOL was born in 1998 by the hand of Ruben Abelenda, a lover of the sea and the beach of Berria in Santoña.

It was the first surf school on the beach of Berria, a magical place where it all began.

The first steps in surfing

Born in Santoña, Rubén took his first paddles with a surfboard he borrowed on the beach of Razo (Galicia), during a trip with his father. From that moment on, surfing changed everything. Together with his friends, he rode his bike or walked the paths that led them to the beach of Berria. There, between laughter, shared boards and adventures in the old Paradise building, he began a passion that would take him very far.

The trip that changed everything

At only 18 years old, Rubén traveled to Australia, a country where surfing is much more than a sport: it is a way of life. There, parents, children and grandparents share the waves and the culture of the sea. That trip inspired him to bring that same philosophy to Santoña: to share the waves, respect for nature and passion for surfing with anyone who wanted it. Thus BERRIA SURF SCHOOL was born.

From school to the most complete surf camp

After years of teaching surfing and transmitting his love for the ocean, Rubén dreamed of offering something more: a complete experience. Not only did he want to teach surfing, but he also wanted his students to live unique days. That’s how BERRIA SURF CAMP was born, where we offer not only surf lessons, but also accommodation by the sea, delicious meals, unforgettable activities and a unique atmosphere among friends, waves and nature.

A reference of surfing in Spain

With more than 25 years of experience, today BERRIA SURF CAMP is the reference surf camp in Spain. Thousands of students have passed through our facilities, enjoying the sea, learning to surf and creating unforgettable memories.

Ruben has traveled all over the world in search of waves (Australia, Mexico, Indonesia, Peru…) and has competed nationally and internationally, achieving a 5th place nationally. But where he has enjoyed the most has been sharing his passion for surfing with people like you.

WHAT DO WE DO?

HERE YOU WILL LEARN AND HAVE A LOT OF FUN, QUICKLY AND SAFELY.

On the beach of Berria, in the town of Santoña (Cantabria, Spain) we have the best surf school for children, youth and adults. We have more than 2,200 m² of facilities overlooking the sea in a privileged area and located 20 meters from the waves.

Surf lessons

From the initiation to the world of surfing to the improvement, we offer you lessons in the mornings and afternoons, in group or private, with an instructor dedicating all his time to you.

Surf Camps

So you can catch waves for several days and enjoy an unforgettable experience, with parallel activities, accommodation overlooking the sea and the right food.

Equipment rental

We offer you boards of different sizes and styles. In addition, you will have wetsuits of the best brands for you to practice surfing with all the tranquility you are looking for.

Accommodation - Surf house

We have a structure on the beach of Berria, in front of the waves, where we share very good moments between friends and fellow surfers.

And if they are professionals who want to improve their techniques, we want them to feel that they have acquired new knowledge that will allow them to be better surfers.

1998

Ruben Abelenda channeled all the surfing experience he gained from riding the world's best waves and beaches to create Berria Surf School.
2001

Rubén has been awarded in the 6th National Surfing Championship and many other international competitions.
2003

The first Surf Camp in Berria was held with the participation of 17 children, making our school the pioneer in Cantabria.
2006

With great pride and achievement, we have secured sponsorship agreements with major global surf brands such as Rip Curl, Reef, and Full&Cas.
2010

The Surf House was inaugurated at Berria Surf School to accommodate adults and children during summer camps and major holiday weekends in Spain.
2019

We keep going strong, creating dreams and delivering unforgettable moments to more than 1,000 students every year at Berria.
